THE APPEAL
Plymouth's "Evening Herald" published an article on the appeal in 2004 and started the ball rolling on what was to be an epic fundraising journey. From sponsored walks, abseiling, charity balls through to donations by local businesses the appeal finished 2005 with a grand total in excess of £100000.
The appeal was also selected as the chosen charity for the 2005 Plymouth Half-marathon. The half-marathon raised £20000 for the appeal.
Plymouth and South West Co-Operative Society also supported the appeal - raising a magnificent £30000. One of the initiatives from the Co-Operative Society was their 'Community card'. The scheme enabled shoppers to raise funds simply by shopping in Co-Operative stores and collecting 'points' on the community cards.
Money was also raised by Plymouth Garden Centre and "Need a Tree" who both donated some of the proceeds from Christmas tree sales.
The "Give A Child A Chance" appeal is a restricted fund within the Happy Hospital Children's Fund (Charity Registration number 1110340).
