The Big Lottery Fund and National Lottery operator, Camelot Group plc, ran a "Your pound, Your choice" trial in the Plymouth area in the summer. Local people were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite project to benefit from grants of up to £50,000.
The Give A Child A Chance Sensory Garden project received the highest number of votes, 1,289 out of a total of over 3,500. The project will receive a Big Lottery Fund grant of up to £50,000. This grant will be used to create a safe and secure sensory garden for the Plymouth Child Development Centre at Scott Hospital. The garden will allow local children with disabilities to experience different sounds, textures and smells.
Pat Charlton from Children’s Sensory Garden project said: “It’s been an amazing month and we are so grateful to the Plymouth public for backing us and it is now down to us to deliver our project. I am delighted we have won but I do feel for the two projects that didn’t win as I know how hard they worked and I wish both of them every success in their fund raising activities.”
